By Sophie Velzian Sophie’s “My Helford Sketchbook” collection of paintings emerged from a year of plein air painting where she found solace and joy in being out in her local landscape while dealing with her mother’s dementia diagnosis. “I want these paintings to uplift and inspire. For me they celebrate the joy of painting, the miracle of art for your mental health, and the beauty of the Helford River”. Mint Green Delight inspiration: “Sunshine and showers, the light is changing every second. Waves hurry in from the South, scurrying over the sunlit river bed which makes the water radiate a joyous mint green. Autumn is coming, faint pops of red and orange peep through the line of trees on the shore. It feels good to be here, today.” Painted in gouache on paper and bonded to board.
